Henry Arthur Shaffer, Jr. It is with deep sadness that the family of Henry A. (Dick) Shaffer, Jr., 79, of Elkton, MD, announces his passing on Monday, September 7, 2026, after a long illness. Even though family and friends grieve in his loss, there is much joy in the legacy he left us.

A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born in Baltimore, MD on February 28, 1947, to the late Henry A. Shaffer, Sr. and Mary Pauline (Siple) Shaffer. Henry attended Elkton High School where he excelled in the classroom and in both baseball and football. Henry was a graduate of Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee, where he received a partial academic-athletic scholarship, was a member of honor societies and was a 4-year varsity letter winner in baseball. He received his Master's Degree in Administration from Towson University.

Upon graduation he was employed by the Cecil County Public Schools as a teacher and baseball and football coach. Other positions held during his 51-year career with the school system included Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, Supervisor and Director of Human Resources, Associate Superintendent, Superintendent of Schools, and Consultant to the Superintendent/Board of Education.

Over the years, Mr. Shaffer represented Cecil County Public Schools on various local, state and regional committees and task forces, including: Maryland Negotiator's Service (Past President), Maryland Negotiator's Service Labor Relations Assistance Team (Founder and Past President), Chief Negotiator for Cecil County Public Schools, Association of School System Personnel Administrators (Past Chairperson), Eastern Shore Personnel Directors Association (Past Chairperson), Business and Education Partnership Advisory Council, Cecil County Homeland Security Committee, et al.

Community involvement included membership in the Elkton Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and lay preacher over the years, Union Lodge #48 AF&AM, the William F. Singerly Fire Company, the Board of Directors for the United Way, the NAACP, the Board of Directors of Northern Chesapeake Hospice, Cecil County Board of Election Supervisors (Past President), Elkton Planning Commission, Cecil/Harford Waterman's Association, and the Upper Chesapeake Bay Museum. He was a recipient of the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce Donald Thomey Lifelong Service Award. This recognition cited his years of employment with the public schools and dedication to children and the community.

A beloved son, brother, dedicated husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and cherished friend to all who knew him, his greatest joy in life was gathering with his family and celebrating accomplishments of friends and loved ones. He will be remembered for his resilience, strength of character, charming sense of humor, optimism, generosity and willingness to help others. He approached life with a calm humility and treated everyone with a sense of kindness and caring. Henry lived a life filled with enthusiasm, hard work, adventure, kindness, humor, service, and devotion to the people he loved. His legacy lives on through his daughter, granddaughter, and loved ones, who will carry forward his values, lessons, and love.

An avid sportsman, Henry enjoyed hunting on the family farm, training rabbit dogs, boating, fishing and crabbing. Henry is survived by his loving wife, Kingsley Hopper Shaffer, to whom he was married for more than 56 years; his daughter, Kimberly Miller (John), and granddaughter, Paige. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Virginia Shaffer, and brother, Jerome Davis Shaffer.

Memorial service will be held 2:30 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Elkton Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Main St, Elkton, MD 21921, with visitation beginning at 12 noon. Interment will be private in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton, MD

George A. Klusak passed away on Aug. 30 at Autumn Lake Healthcare. He was born on April 3, 1948 in Clearfield County, PA.

He received his education degree from California State College in PA and later a master’s degree from Millersville University. George began his career teaching industrial arts at Rising Sun High School and later became an assistant principal, serving many of the high schools in Cecil County in that capacity.

George was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish in both MD and PA. He especially loved that his sons and his grandsons had the same passion for the outdoors. For many years, he managed Fallen Timber Tree Farm, enjoying especially the return of families year after year as they searched for their perfect Christmas tree.

He was an active member of the Rising Sun Lion’s Club for over 50 years, serving in all the various leadership roles and led his life as a devout Catholic. Following retirement from Cecil County Schools, George worked part-time for Point Blank Enterprises at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. There, he witnessed the testing of body armor with ballistics and logged in results.

He was preceded in death by his father George E. Klusak, and his brother Edward. He is survived by his mother, Regina Klusak, his wife, Laurel Wirtz, sons Blair (Laura), Brandon (Amy), and Brent (Alec), grandchildren Lucas (Chasity), Mason, Alice, Parker, Camden, and Weston Klusak and his first great grandchild, expected this winter.

Carol Jean Scheff was born on June 3, 1947 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Nicholas Scheff and Vera Irene Lauffer Scheff. Carol spent her youth in the Jeannette - Greensburg area of Western Pennsylvania. She graduated from Hempfield Area High School in June, 1965. She went on to college at Salem College in Salem, West Virginia majoring in Physical Education with a minor in English. Upon graduating from Salem College in 1970, Carol accepted a teaching position with North East High School in Cecil County, Maryland. Carol taught Phys. Ed. until retiring from teaching in 2001. She moved from North East, Maryland to Elkton, Maryland where she lived until 2007 when she moved back to Western Pennsylvania.

Carol loved playing golf but most importantly, loved spending time with her many friends and her family. In September 2022, Carol moved to a retirement community in Longwood, Florida in order to be closer to her brother and Sister-in-Law. Carol loved the retirement community and enjoyed many activities with her fellow residents.Carol passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026.

She is survived by a brother, Randy and Sister-in-Law, Linda, a Nephew Bryan Scheff and his wife Arlene of Lake Mary, Florida and Niece Valerie and her husband Mike Rugienius of Weddington, North Carolina. She adored her Great Nephew Liam and Great Nieces Ashton, Annabelle and McKinley. She will be interred in Twin Valley Mausoleum in Delmont, Pennsylvania with her Mother and Father.

Norman "Chucky" Claude Webster Sr., 77, of Elkton, MD went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 7, 2026 at Christiana Care. Born in Fair Hill, MD on February 2, 1949, he was the son of the late Colonel Anthony Webster and Bertha Delphine Williams Kirven. Mr. Webster retired after dedicating over 34 years at Chrysler. He also spent 30 years in custodial services with Cecil County Public Schools.

Mr. Webster's biggest joy in life was his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed watching westerns and Bruce Lee movies and was a handyman who could fix anything. Mr. Webster was a proud, faithful member of Providence United Methodist Church (PUMC) where he served as treasurer and trustee. He was recently recognized with the "Man of the Year" award by PUMC.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years; Florence Hickman Webster, children; Melissa Blount (Art), Elkton, MD, Michael Webster, Elkton, MD, Andrea Watson (Andre), Bristow, VA, Cory Webster (Natasha), District Heights, MD, Chakakhan Webster (Terry Chamberlain), Elkton, MD, and Norman Webster Jr. (Jahneé), Elkton, MD, twenty-three grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, siblings; Brenda Kay Lyle (Edwin), Newark, DE, Larry Webster Sr. (Ivy), Elkton, MD, Patricia Lyle (George), Elkton, MD, Philbert Webster (Alameda), New Castle, DE, Robert (Dorothy), Quinn Webster, Elkton, MD, Quinten Webster, Elkton, MD, Sharmaine Whalen, Elkton, MD, Sharline Hightower (Thomas), Elkton, MD, sister-in-laws; Loretta Deyo (Ruben), Louise Hickman, and Marjorie Earl Hayman, brother-in-law; Joseph Hickman Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, including special friends Joseph Jones and Ronnie Poore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings; Clifford Webster, Gwendolyn Bullock, Cornell Webster, and Joyce Sherrill.

Janelle Sloan Heuberger, 79, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted educator, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026. Born on April 9, 1947, in Milford, Delaware, Janelle lived a full and enriching life, marked by steadfast dedication to her family and her students. Janelle's early years were marked by remarkable achievement and enthusiasm. A proud graduate of Georgetown High School, she was known for her school spirit as both a cheerleader and an engaged student. Her adventurous spirit led her to become an AFS Exchange Student to Australia during her junior year. Continuing her education at the University of Delaware, where she again excelled academically and socially. Janelle served as a UD Football cheerleader, was honored as a member of the Homecoming Court.

Janelle answered a calling to teach, dedicating her 35-year career to Cecil County Maryland Public Schools, where she taught math and science. Her passion for her students and her craft was recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year, an honor that reflected both her skill and her compassion in the classroom Generations of students benefited not only from her subject expertise but from her encouragement and belief in their potential.

A voracious reader Jan served as assistant librarian for Georgetown Library. Over the years she was an enthusiastic member of various book clubs. Janelle found joy in literature and always encouraged spirited conversation and thoughtful debate.

Janelle was dearly loved by her family. She is survived by her daughters, Tara Heuberger and Megan Berge (Michael); her adored grandchildren, Tegan Price, Eleanor Berge, Caleb Berge, and Amelia Berge; her brothers, Thomas Sloan (Marjorie) and James G. Sloan (Norma); sister-in-law BJ Heuberger; nieces: Marilyn Magnano, Amy McDonell, Keri Gannon, Gretchen Purvis; nephews: Andrew Sloan, Steve Schlitz, Jon Schlitz, Matt Schlitz; and fourteen grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter Heuberger; her parents William and Eleanor Sloan.

Ricky "Rick" Ray Reedy, 81, of Rock Hall, Maryland, passed away on June 1, 2026, in Elkton, Maryland, surrounded by family and friends. Rick was born on April 11, 1945, in Rugby, Grayson County, Virginia, to Ernest Clay Reedy and Carrie Hazel Davis Reedy. He graduated from Elkton High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University and a Master of Education degree from the University of Delaware. On August 1, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Etta Johnson. They shared 57 years of marriage and built a life together centered on family, hard work, and service to others.

Rick devoted 38 years to teaching mathematics, spending eight years in Cecil County and thirty years at Newark High School. For most of his career, he taught Advanced Placement Calculus and was twice named Newark High School Teacher of the Year. He also coached high school basketball and college volleyball, and served as both a teacher and later principal of the New Castle County Summer School. Outside of education, Rick built and managed a successful single-family home rental business which he managed for nearly 50 years.

A member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, Rick remained committed to education and service throughout his life. In retirement, he volunteered as a tutor at the Kent County Learning Center, helping elementary and high school students as well as adults working toward their GED. Fishing was Rick's greatest recreational passion. He spent countless hours with friends on the Chesapeake Bay and nearby waters, finding both enjoyment and peace on the water. He also enjoyed crabbing, reading, playing bridge and pinochle, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. A lifelong athlete, Rick's love of basketball and volleyball continued long after his high school and college playing days, and he remained an active competitor in organized leagues well into his forties. He will be remembered for his resilience, strength of character, charming sense of humor, optimism, generosity, and willingness to help others. He approached life with a calm humility and treated everyone with kindness and caring.

Rick is survived by his wife, Mary Etta Reedy; his sister, Freeda Kay Marshall; his brother, Danny Clay Reedy (Shirley); his sister-in-law, Lynn Johnson; nieces Teresa Bottjer (CJ), Pam Marshall, Danielle Johnson, and Rachel Reedy; nephews Billy Marshall (Becky), Danny Clay Reedy, Jr., and Ryan Johnson; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Clay Reedy and Carrie Hazel Davis Reedy; his mother-in-law, Mary Bilderback Johnson; his father-in-law, Custis Wesley Johnson; his brothers-in-law, Billy Marshall, John Joseph Johnson, and Robert Alan Johnson; and his niece, Lisa Wright.
